AeroPress

What is an AeroPress?

The AeroPress coffee brewer is a simple and easy to use manual coffee brewer designed by American inventor Alan Adler. A firm favourite here at Fables HQ, the AeroPress produces a clean, full-bodied cup of coffee without bitterness and with remarkably low acidity.

*This recipe uses the inverted method however the same recipe works just as well for the standard method.

  1. Set up the AeroPress by placing the plunger into the top of the brewing chamber (aligning with the top of number 4) and place onto a level surface upside down (hexagon side up). Insert filter paper into the filter cap.
  2. Rinse the brewing chamber and filter paper with hot water – this helps to ensure a more consistent brewing temperature and eliminates any paper flavour from the filter paper.
  3. Add ground coffee into the brewing chamber. Give the AeroPress a light shake to level out the coffee.
  4. Add 30g water and gently stir to ensure the coffee grounds are fully saturated. Allow the coffee to “bloom” for 30 seconds.
  5. Add remaining 170g water, stir gently for 10 seconds and let it brew for 30 seconds.
  6. Stir gently for another 10 seconds and brew for another 30 seconds.
  7. Secure filter cap, place cup/jug upside down over the top of the AeroPress and flip over. Be careful!
  8. Push down on the plunger gently and slowly until all the coffee is pushed through the filter (you should hear a hissing sound at the end). Serve and enjoy!
