V60 Pourover

The classic conical dripper, the Hario V60 Pourover is a simple manual brewing method where, as its name suggests, water is poured over a bed of coffee grounds and allowed to pass through using only the force of gravity.

What you’ll need

  • Hario V60 Pourover
  • Filter papers
  • Coffee
  • Kettle
  • Scale
  • Timer

Recipe

Coffee: 15g, medium to medium fine grind

Water: 250ml at 95°C (approximately 1 minute off the boil)

Brew time: 2-2.30 minutes

Serves: 1

*For a 2 cup recipe, simply double the amount of coffee and water used. The brew time should increase to 3-4 minutes.

  1. Fold and insert the filter paper into the cone and place on top of your cup/jug.
  2. Rinse the filter paper with hot water – this will eliminate any paper flavour from the filter paper and preheat your cup/jug at the same time. Don’t forget to pour away the water after rinsing!
  3. Pour coffee into the filter and gently shake the cone to level out the coffee.
  4. Slowly pour 30ml of water (60ml for a 2 cup recipe) and gently stir a few times to ensure the coffee grounds are fully saturated. Allow the coffee to “bloom” for 30 seconds.
  5. Pour the remaining water slowly in a circular motion, starting from the centre of the coffee and moving outwards.
  6. Allow the water to fully drain through. Serve and enjoy!
